Tailored coats for man

Whatever its style, the coat reigns supreme in the male wardrobe, without ever forgetting its origins, which tell the history and the stories of the men who have worn it.

Stories of refined men like the one narrated by Chesterfield, conceived by the 6th Earl of Chesterfield, a dandy from Lord Byron circle. It was 1830 and the men’s fashion in the land of Albione called for the morning coat (tight) or the frock coat to wear both outdoors and indoors: a true gentleman would never take off his jacket in public. The count had his tailor design a kind of elongated jacket, to be worn over the suit and to be removed once crossed the threshold. Buttons hidden by large folds, buttoned set-in sleeves, high central vent, horizontal pockets and chest pocket: even today the Chesterfield is the city coat par excellence.

The Ulster tells us of rustic men, named after the Irish province whose inhabitants wore large coats, long under the knee: double-breasted fastening, pockets with pipings and cuffs and handguards. Martial, impressive.

The Montgomery tells us about valiant men: the Hero of El-Alamein, Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, during the African campaign started to wear the Duffle Coat, whose name reminded the Belgian town of Duffel, where a wool particularly rich in lanolin, naturally water-repellent was produced. That jacket, developed by Belgian fishermen and then adopted by the Royal Navy, did not allow a drop of water to pass through, had no buttons to interfere with their maneuvers, only comfortable frogs, and with its hood sheltered from wind and water. He achieved universal fame worn by that little general who beat Rommel, so as to steal his name.

The Peacoat tells us of men of sea, the double-breasted heavy blue jacket, worn since the eighteenth century on English and Dutch ships, perfect for the non-commissioned officers and sailors who had to climb on shrouds and flagpoles.

And again the Tabarro, the Casentino, the Loden, the Crombie, the British Warm, the Inverness, the Covert Coat, the Havelock, the Polo Coat of many other men reveal their stories … now it is your turn to tell yours, choose your Tailored coat for man.
